xarray: port tests to kunit
Minimally rewrite the XArray unit tests to use kunit. This integrates nicely with existing kunit tools which produce nicer human-readable output compared to the existing machinery. Highlights for this merge window:
* The whole caching of module code into huge pages by Mike Rapoport is going
in through Andrew Morton's tree due to some other code dependencies. That's
really the biggest highlight for Linux kernel modules in this release. With
it we share huge pages for modules, starting off with x86. Expect to see that
soon through Andrew!
* Helge Deller addressed some lingering low hanging fruit alignment
enhancements by. It is worth pointing out that from his old patch series
I dropped his vmlinux.lds.h change at Masahiro's request as he would

Networking changes for 6.13.
The most significant set of changes is the per netns RTNL. The new
behavior is disabled by default, regression risk should be contained.
Notably the new config knob PTP_1588_CLOCK_VMCLOCK will inherit its
default value from PTP_1588_CLOCK_KVM, as the first is intended to be
a more reliable replacement for the latter.

scope per network-namespace, thus reducing the lock contention
significantly in the containerized use-case, comprising:

lib: util_macros_kunit: add kunit test for util_macros.h
A bug was found in the find_closest() (find_closest_descending() is also
affected after some testing), where for certain values with small
progressions of 1, 2 & 3, the rounding (done by averaging 2 values) causes
an incorrect index to be returned.
The bug is described in more detail in the commit which fixes the bug.
This commit adds a kunit test to validate that the fix works correctly.
This kunit test adds some of the arrays (from the driver-sphere) that seem
to produce issues with the 'find_closest()' macro. Specifically the one
from ad7606 driver (with which the bug was found) and from the ina2xx
drivers, which shows the quirk with 'find_closest()' with elements in a
array that have an interval of 3.
For the find_closest_descending() tests, the same arrays are used as for
the find_closest(), but in reverse; the idea is that
'find_closest_descending()' should return the sames indices as
'find_closest()' but in reverse.
For testing both macros, there are 4 special arrays created, one for
testing find_closest{_descending}() for arrays of progressions 1, 2, 3 and
4. The idea is to show that (for progressions of 1, 2 & 3) the fix works
as expected. When removing the fix, the issues should start to show up.
Then an extra array of negative and positive values is added. There are
currently no such arrays within drivers, but one could expect that these
macros behave correctly even for such arrays.

lib/min_heap: introduce non-inline versions of min heap API functions
Patch series "Enhance min heap API with non-inline functions and optimizations", v2. Add non-inline versions of the min heap API functions in lib/min_heap.c and updates all users outside of kernel/events/core.c to use these non-inline versions. To mitigate the performance impact of indirect function calls caused by the non-inline versions of the swap and compare functions, a builtin swap has been introduced that swaps elements based on their size. Additionally, it micro-optimizes the efficiency of the min heap by pre-scaling the counter, following the same approach as in lib/sort.c. Documentation for the min heap API has also been added to the core-api section. This patch (of 10): All current min heap API functions are marked with '__always_inline'. However, as the number of users increases, inlining these functions everywhere leads to a increase in kernel size. In performance-critical paths, such as when perf events are enabled and min heap functions are called on every context switch, it is important to retain the inline versions for optimal performance. New implementation for IO memcpy and IO memset
The IO memcpy and IO memset functions in asm-generic/io.h simply call
memcpy and memset. This can lead to alignment problems or faults on
architectures that do not define their own version and fall back to
these defaults.
This patch introduces new implementations for IO memcpy and IO memset,
that use read{l,q} accessor functions, align accesses to machine word
size, and resort to byte accesses when the target memory is not aligned.
For new architectures and existing ones that were using the old
fallbacks these functions are save to use, because IO memory constraints
are taken into account. Moreover, architectures with similar
implementations can now use these new versions, not needing to implement
their own.

selftests: add new kallsyms selftests
We lack find_symbol() selftests, so add one. This let's us stress test improvements easily on find_symbol() or optimizations. It also inherently allows us to test the limits of kallsyms on Linux today. We test a pathalogical use case for kallsyms by introducing modules which are automatically written for us with a larger number of symbols. We have 4 kallsyms test modules: A: has KALLSYSMS_NUMSYMS exported symbols B: uses one of A's symbols C: adds KALLSYMS_SCALE_FACTOR * KALLSYSMS_NUMSYMS exported D: adds 2 * the symbols than C By using anything much larger than KALLSYSMS_NUMSYMS as 10,000 and KALLSYMS_SCALE_FACTOR of 8 we segfault today. So we're capped at around 160000 symbols somehow today. We can inpsect that issue at our leasure later, but for now the real value to this test is that this will easily allow us to test improvements on find_symbol(). We want to enable this test on allyesmodconfig builds so we can't use this combination, so instead just use a safe value for now and be informative on the Kconfig symbol documentation about where our thresholds are for testers. We default then to KALLSYSMS_NUMSYMS of just 100 and KALLSYMS_SCALE_FACTOR of 8. On x86_64 we can use perf, for other architectures we just use 'time' and allow for customizations. For example a future enhancements could be done for parisc to check for unaligned accesses which triggers a special special exception handler assembler code inside the kernel. lib: packing: add KUnit tests adapted from selftests
Add 24 simple KUnit tests for the lib/packing.c pack() and unpack() APIs. The first 16 tests exercise all combinations of quirks with a simple magic number value on a 16-byte buffer. The remaining 8 tests cover non-multiple-of-4 buffer sizes. These tests were originally written by Vladimir as simple selftest functions. I adapted them to KUnit, refactoring them into a table driven approach. This will aid in adding additional tests in the future. fortify: refactor test_fortify Makefile to fix some build problems
There are some issues in the test_fortify Makefile code.
Problem 1: cc-disable-warning invokes compiler dozens of times
To see how many times the cc-disable-warning is evaluated, change
this code:
$(call cc-disable-warning,fortify-source)
to:
$(call cc-disable-warning,$(shell touch /tmp/fortify-$$$$)fortify-source)
Then, build the kernel with CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE=y. You will see a
large number of '/tmp/fortify-<PID>' files created:
$ ls -1 /tmp/fortify-* | wc
80 80 1600
This means the compiler was invoked 80 times just for checking the
-Wno-fortify-source flag support.
$(call cc-disable-warning,fortify-source) should be added to a simple
variable instead of a recursive variable.
Problem 2: do not recompile string.o when the test code is updated
The test cases are independent of the kernel. However, when the test
code is updated, $(obj)/string.o is rebuilt and vmlinux is relinked
due to this dependency:
$(obj)/string.o: $(obj)/$(TEST_FORTIFY_LOG)
always-y is suitable for building the log files.
Problem 3: redundant code
clean-files += $(addsuffix .o, $(TEST_FORTIFY_LOGS))
... is unneeded because the top Makefile globally cleans *.o files.
This commit fixes these issues and makes the code readable.

fortify: fix warnings in fortify tests with KASAN
When a software KASAN mode is enabled, the fortify tests emit warnings
on some architectures.
For example, for ARCH=arm, the combination of CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE=y
and CONFIG_KASAN=y produces the following warnings:

Commit 9c2d1328f88a ("kbuild: provide reasonable defaults for tool
coverage") removed KASAN flags from non-kernel objects by default.
It was an intended behavior because lib/test_fortify/*.c are unit
tests that are not linked to the kernel.
As it turns out, some architectures require -fsanitize=kernel-(hw)address
to define __SANITIZE_ADDRESS__ for the fortify tests.
Without __SANITIZE_ADDRESS__ defined, arch/arm/include/asm/string.h
defines __NO_FORTIFY, thus excluding <linux/fortify-string.h>.
This issue does not occur on x86 thanks to commit 4ec4190be4cf
("kasan, x86: don't rename memintrinsics in uninstrumented files"),
but there are still some architectures that define __NO_FORTIFY
in such a situation.
Set KASAN_SANITIZE=y explicitly to the fortify tests.

kbuild: use $(src) instead of $(srctree)/$(src) for source directory
Kbuild conventionally uses $(obj)/ for generated files, and $(src)/ for
checked-in source files. It is merely a convention without any functional
difference. In fact, $(obj) and $(src) are exactly the same, as defined
in scripts/Makefile.build:
src := $(obj)
When the kernel is built in a separate output directory, $(src) does
not accurately reflect the source directory location. While Kbuild
resolves this discrepancy by specifying VPATH=$(srctree) to search for
source files, it does not cover all cases. For example, when adding a
header search path for local headers, -I$(srctree)/$(src) is typically
passed to the compiler.
This introduces inconsistency between upstream and downstream Makefiles
because $(src) is used instead of $(srctree)/$(src) for the latter.
To address this inconsistency, this commit changes the semantics of
$(src) so that it always points to the directory in the source tree.
Going forward, the variables used in Makefiles will have the following
meanings:
$(obj) - directory in the object tree
$(src) - directory in the source tree (changed by this commit)
$(objtree) - the top of the kernel object tree
$(srctree) - the top of the kernel source tree
Consequently, $(srctree)/$(src) in upstream Makefiles need to be replaced
with $(src).

Introduce CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING which provides definitions to easily instrument memory allocators. It registers an "alloc_tags" codetag type with /proc/allocinfo interface to output allocation tag information when the feature is enabled. CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_DEBUG is provided for debugging the memory allocation profiling instrumentation. Architectures are required to provide four-byte cmpxchg() and 64-bit architectures are additionally required to provide eight-byte cmpxchg(). However, there are cases where one-byte cmpxchg() would be extremely useful. Therefore, provide cmpxchg_emu_u8() that emulates one-byte cmpxchg() in terms of four-byte cmpxchg(). fortify: Add KUnit tests for runtime overflows
With fortify overflows able to be redirected, we can use KUnit to exercise the overflow conditions. Add tests for every API covered by CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE, except for memset() and memcpy(), which are special-cased for now. Disable warnings in the Makefile since we're explicitly testing known-bad string handling code patterns. livepatch: Move tests from lib/livepatch to selftests/livepatch
The modules are being moved from lib/livepatch to
tools/testing/selftests/livepatch/test_modules.
This code moving will allow writing more complex tests, like for example an
userspace C code that will call a livepatched kernel function.
The modules are now built as out-of-tree
modules, but being part of the kernel source means they will be maintained.
Another advantage of the code moving is to be able to easily change,
debug and rebuild the tests by running make on the selftests/livepatch
directory, which is not currently possible since the modules on
lib/livepatch are build and installed using the "modules" target.
The current approach also keeps the ability to execute the tests manually
by executing the scripts inside selftests/livepatch directory, as it's
currently supported. If the modules are modified, they needed to be
rebuilt before running the scripts though.
The modules are built before running the selftests when using the
kselftest invocations:
make kselftest TARGETS=livepatch
or
make -C tools/testing/selftests/livepatch run_tests
Having the modules being built as out-of-modules requires changing the
currently used 'modprobe' by 'insmod' and adapt the test scripts that
check for the kernel message buffer.
Now it is possible to only compile the modules by running:
make -C tools/testing/selftests/livepatch/
This way the test modules and other test program can be built in order
to be packaged if so desired.
As there aren't any modules being built on lib/livepatch, remove the
TEST_LIVEPATCH Kconfig and it's references.
Note: "make gen_tar" packages the pre-built binaries into the tarball.
It means that it will store the test modules pre-built for
the kernel running on the build host.
Note that these modules need not binary compatible with
the kernel built from the same sources. But the same
is true for other packaged selftest binaries.
The entire kernel sources are needed for rebuilding
the selftests on another system.

"The main new functionality this time is work to allow Linux to
natively handle CXL link protocol errors signalled via PCIe AER for
current generation CXL platforms. This required some enlightenment of
the PCIe AER core to workaround the fact that current generation RCH
(Restricted CXL Host) platforms physically hide topology details and
registers via a mechanism called RCRB (Root Complex Register Block).
The next major highlight is reworks to address bugs in parsing region
configurations for next generation VH (Virtual Host) topologies. The
old broken algorithm is replaced with a simpler one that significantly
increases the number of region configurations supported by Linux. This
is again relevant for error handling so that forward and reverse
address translation of memory errors can be carried out by Linux for
memory regions instantiated by platform firmware.
As for other cross-tree work, the ACPI table parsing code has been
refactored for reuse parsing the "CDAT" structure which is an
ACPI-like data structure that is reported by CXL devices. That work is
in preparation for v6.8 support for CXL QoS. Think of this as dynamic
generation of NUMA node topology information generated by Linux rather
than platform firmware.
Lastly, a number of internal object lifetime issues have been resolved
along with misc. fixes and feature updates (decoders_committed sysfs
ABI).

Initial bcachefs pull request for 6.7-rc1
Here's the bcachefs filesystem pull request. One new patch since last week: the exportfs constants ended up conflicting with other filesystems that are also getting added to the global enum, so switched to new constants picked by Amir. I'll also be sending another pull request later on in the cycle bringing things up to date my master branch that people are currently running; that will be restricted to fs/bcachefs/, naturally. acpi: Move common tables helper functions to common lib
Some of the routines in ACPI driver/acpi/tables.c can be shared with parsing CDAT. CDAT is a device-provided data structure that is formatted similar to a platform provided ACPI table. CDAT is used by CXL and can exist on platforms that do not use ACPI. Split out the common routine from ACPI to accommodate platforms that do not support ACPI and move that to /lib. The common routines can be built outside of ACPI if FIRMWARE_TABLES is selected. The test_objpool module (test_objpool) will run several testcases for objpool stress and performance evaluation. Each testcase will have all available cpu cores involved to create a situation of high parallel and high contention. As of now there are 5 groups and 5 * 2 testcases in total: 1) group 1: synchronous mode objpool is managed synchronously, that is, all objects are to be reclaimed before objpool finalization and the objpool owner makes sure of it. With leveraging percpu ring-array to mitigate hot spots of memory contention, it delivers near-linear scalability for high parallel scenarios. lib: add light-weight queuing mechanism.
lwq is a FIFO single-linked queue that only requires a spinlock for dequeueing, which happens in process context. Enqueueing is atomic with no spinlock and can happen in any context. This is particularly useful when work items are queued from BH or IRQ context, and when they are handled one at a time by dedicated threads. Avoiding any locking when enqueueing means there is no need to disable BH or interrupts, which is generally best avoided (particularly when there are any RT tasks on the machine). This solution is superior to using "list_head" links because we need half as many pointers in the data structures, and because list_head lists would need locking to add items to the queue. This solution is superior to a bespoke solution as all locking and container_of casting is integrated, so the interface is simple. Despite the similar name, this solution meets a distinctly different need to kfifo. kfifo provides a fixed sized circular buffer to which data can be added at one end and removed at the other, and does not provide any locking. lwq does not have any size limit and works with data structures (objects?) rather than data (bytes). lib/bitmap.c and corresponding include/linux/bitmap.h are intended to hold functions related to operations on bitmaps, like bitmap_shift or bitmap_set. Historically, some string-related operations like bitmap_parse are also reside in lib/bitmap.c. Now that the subsystem evolves, string-related bitmap operations became a significant part of the file. Because they are quite different from the other bitmap functions by nature, it's worth to split them to a separate source/header files.
